Why Robbie Keane Could Be The ISL’s All-Time Top Goalscorer

Keane ISL Top Goalscorer

Robbie Keane is widely regarded as one of the greatest Irish players of all time, and arguably counts as one of the best Premier League strikers. Following his departure from Los Angeles many thought that the great Irishman’s career has reached an end, but Keane announced in August that there is still one league for him to conquer – joining the Indian Super League defending champions ATK for the 2017-18 season.

Keane left a huge mark playing for Tottenham Hotspurs on two occasions, but is also fondly remembered in clubs like Liverpool, Coventry City and Celtic.

With more than 300 goals to his name in his career, Keane will no doubt be looking to leave the football stage on a high. Given his dominance in the US Major Soccer League, scoring 104 times during his five-year spell at LA Galaxy, there’s little doubt Keane will be a potent striker for Teddy Sheringham’s ATK squad.

Canadian striker Iain Hume currently holds the record as the top goalscorer in the ISL. But the arrival from Robbie Keane could change that, with a career total of 317 goals in 726 appearances, including 68 international goals in 146 appearances.

Should Keane decide to stay in the ISL over one season, there’s little doubt he could surpass Hume’s record. Keane has already scored twice during the preseason, most recently hitting the net during ATK’s win against Neroca FC.

Teddy Sheringham and ATK will be hoping Keane’s preseason results are a sign of good things to come when the five-month campaign kicks-off November 18th. One thing is for certain – the Indian Super League audience is ready to see more action, more goals, and the goalscoring prowess of a Premier League striker in action.
