Rumours of a potential ISL I-League merger seem to be gaining steam, with President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Praful Patel announcing a meeting between I League clubs about the future of the Indian football leagues.
While the Indian Super League continues to grow in popularity and attract world-class players, the I-League is troubled with news that Pune FC and Bharat FC may be set to exit the competition.
Sources in the Indian football world have commented on the difficulty in running two footballing leagues in the country, and the sustainability given the losses sustained by the leagues.
The news comes however as the AIFF discusses plans to launch a second division in the I-League, with qualifiers set to take place for the 2016-17 season.
