Berbatov & Wes Brown Join ISL

As the ISL continues to grow in popularity, football stars from Europe and beyond continue to flock to the competition each season. While marquee players are no longer mandatory for teams entering the league, squads like ATK have attracted high-caliber talent like of Teddy Sheringham and Robbie Keane.

Here we take a look at three of the biggest marquees joining the 2017-18 ISL season – Dimitar Berbatov, Wes Brown and Marcinho.

Dimitar Berbatov

Arguably one of the greatest names for the upcoming ISL season, Bulgarian striker and former Manchester United targetman Dimitar Berbatov joins Kerala Blasters. Berbatov, 36, scored 27 goals during his two year spell at Tottenham Hotspur, followed by 48 goals in 108 appearances at Old Trafford.

As captain of the Bulgarian national team between 2006 to 2010, Berbatov netted 48 goals in 78 appearances, ranking as the all-time top scorer for his country.

Wes Brown

Berbatov will be in good company during his time with Kerala Blasters, reunited with another former Manchester United star Wes Brown. What Berbatov represents in attack his former teammate Wes Brown contributes to defence, adding much needed stability to the Kerala backline.

As a regular at Old Trafford for over ten years, winning two Champions League titles in the process, the 38-year-old will be looking to add another trophy to his resume in this season’s ISL.

Marcinho

Marcio de Souza Gregório Júnior, commonly known as Marcinho, is another big signing for the 2017-18 competition. The Brazilian attacking midfielder joins João de Deus’ NorthEast United.

With a mixed career including spells in Brazil and Europe, the 32-year-old has score a career total of
37 goals, although the Guwahati franchise will likely be focusing on his delivery rather than his goalscoring efforts.
